Santa Cruz Island Hike

This hike to Santa Cruz Island was very special, I wanted to challenge myself so I decided to hike the Scorpion Canyon on my birthday!

The boat trip itself was full adventures, on our way to the island we saw dolphins following the boat, it was just amazing. The boat trip was only 45 min from Ventura harbor.

"Arriving to Potato harbor"

We first arrived to the Potato harbor, which its the starting point for most people who visit the island.

"Scorpion Canyon Loop"

As soon as we arrived we went straight to our main goal, to hike the Scorpion Canyon Loop. Even thought the hike was 4.5 miles it was a very moderate hike. The trail had some rough spots, but made it more fun. You can watch my video from the hike here.

Once we got to the top of the Island, it was a different world, it was full of nature! Blue ocean, clear sky and a soft and refreshing fog.

"Cavern Point Loop"

To end the day at the island, we went for a more relax hike at the Cavern Point Loop, which it has the most amazing view. I don't think you can get any more nature therapy than sitting on the top of the trail and breathing the fresh air.

"A little bit more about the Island"

According to the National Park Service, Santa Cruz Island is divided between The Nature Conservancy and the National Park Service.

In its vastness and variety of flora, fauna, and geology, Santa Cruz Island resembles a miniature California. At over 96 square miles in size and the largest island in California, Santa Cruz contains two rugged mountain ranges; the highest peaks on the islands (rising above 2,000 feet); a large central valley/fault system; deep canyons with year-round springs and streams; and 77 miles of craggy coastline cliffs, giant sea caves, pristine tidepools, and expansive beaches. One of the largest and deepest sea caves in the world, Painted Cave, is found on the northwest coastline of Santa Cruz. Named because of its colorful rock types, lichens, and algae, Painted Cave is nearly a quarter mile long and 100 feet wide, with an entrance ceiling of 160 feet and a waterfall over the entrance in the spring.

"Saying goodbye"

Saying goodbye to the island was such a meditative moment.
